ZephIR Lidar - wind speed at light speed

ZephIR Lidar provides hub height and turbine mounted accurate wind measurement, for wind energy and meteorological applications. These industry leading wind lidar products, ZephIR 300 and ZephIR DM, provide accurate wind measurements, in both onshore and offshore applications.

ZephIR 300 wind lidar: Hub height wind measurement reduces the risk of, and increase the value of wind energy projects. ZephIR DM wind lidar: Accurate wind measurements in advance of a wind turbine increase production and reduce turbine component loading / maintenance costs of wind energy projects. Wind measurements by using lidar typically deliver a £40,000 increase annually in production of a 20 MW onshore wind farm with an average turbine yaw misalignment of 5°.

With more than 7.5 million hours of operation in the field and over 750 deployments (and counting) we have pioneered the use of lidar in the wind industry. We have many world firsts including upwind measurements from a turbine nacelle, turbine wake studies, offshore deployments both fixed and floating wind lidar, an industry-accepted validation process, re-financing and re-powering a wind farm, technology accuracy demonstration in a wind tunnel and total project financing.


 

ZephIR has pioneered the use of lidar in the wind industry, including many world firsts. Some of these achievements are listed below; these are the earliest reported examples that we are aware of from open publications.

2003

The first wind lidar to make upwind measurements from a turbine nacelle.
